What is Clean Language?

Clean Language is a simple set of questions developed by counselling psychologist David Grove. These questions are used with a person’s own words to direct their attention to some aspect of their own experience.

Asking these questions in the right context often results in an interesting new insight or the recognition of some new possibility. And if that new possibility is then questioned using Clean Language, the result can be quite profound.

"With a tool like this you can change the world."

Want to practice Clean Language skills?

You can join in our FREE peer practice sessions every Tuesday and Saturday (except in the school holidays) by joining our community site: Clean Campus, which is also a place to share ideas about all things clean. We also have a more formal practice group led by Marian Way and for which there is a small fee. You can learn about this here.

Or gain a coaching qualification?

Join us for our Clean Coach Certification Programme (Level 1 accredited programme with the ICF) to learn clean coaching methodologies to inspire capability in others and help transform their lives. Based on Clean Language and Symbolic Modelling, this is an ideal opportunity to learn these skills within the context of an ICF accredited coaching programme.

For 2026, we have both in-person (in Switzerland) and online events. The online version includes access to a private space on our Clean Campus where you can connect with the other participants between sessions for discussion, practice and extra learning.

Adventures in Clean was a privilege to attend. I had the opportunity to witness the best in Clean work with others AND have the experience of being facilitated by the best. My professional knowledge has deepened and I am already more effective as a facilitator. Personally, I am now living within a metaphor that will stay with me and morph for the rest of my life. Already new behaviours have emerged, sometimes at unexpected moments. I will be forever grateful for those few days.
